I just found this clip today and I really enjoyed it.
Rory quickly demonstrates how an “assault” from a “bad guy” actually plays out and why most “fight training” is irrelevant.
Using deception to set up his attack, he preemptively attacks without warning – ( the “attack” demo’d is none contact for obvious reasons) – using explosivity to overwhelm his target.
This demonstrates a lot of the principles covered in the new “Combative Principles” book in a way that is succinct and direct. Hope you appreciate this as much as I did.

It took me a minute before I caught one, but good point.
The background indicates that this is an Aikido dojo, and to hear this type of instruction–a prohibition against multiple moves–in an Aikido dojo seems counter to what little I know of Aikido. Perhaps I simply don’t know enough about Aikido and someone can correct me, but it seems that many of the moves are involved because the uke (opponent) must be taken off balance or his motion used against him. Furthermore, Aikido practices entirely defensive moves (although any defensive move can have an offensive counterpart if you simply think about it. Anyone else have any thoughts?
Did you get the point Rory was making here? Im wondering if it’s not clear enough for people and by posting it without an explanation I might be confusing people. I know what point he is making because Im familiar with his books and blog, so I might have assumed too much.
I didn’t understand the concluding part of your article, could you please explain it more?
I didnt write an article here. Above the video there are just 4 paragraphs, so if you be a bit more specific about which part you didnt understand, I will try and help as much as I can.
Did you get the point madeby Rory in the video?
